Recommendation frames - what are they?
Recommendation frames is an iPresso functionality designed for online stores, product pages, news websites and other platforms offering services or products. It allows you to present products from the Feed Manager within your monitored page to both monitored and anonymous users.
First, follow the path System > Monitoring > Site monitoring. Find your monitored page where you want the frame to display. Click "more" (right-hand side) and go to "JS API method settings":
A new panel will open. Scroll down to the very bottom and then enable the "saveFrameClick" method (described as "Save click on the Recommendation frame"):
Confirm that by clicking "Save".
To learn more about Feed Manager features and usage - click here.
Recommendation frames are located in the Content tab under the path:
Start > Content > Recommendation Frames
Here you will find five lists for handling frames: Draft, In test mode, Active, Finished, and Templates. The last one contains templates saved or created from scratch by you:
Creating a frame
To create a recommendation frame, go to the frame creator. To do this, click Create a new recommendation frame:
Choosing a template
To create a recommendation frame from a template prepared by iPresso - choose one of the System Templates. After preparing and saving your templates, you will find them in the same panel. They will be marked as Saved templates. If you want to create a template from scratch using HTML code - choose a template marked as Own HTML code:
Configuration
In order to configure your recommendation frame, the first step is to choose the appropriate feed and its date set. You can select the appropriate feed by clicking on the feed drop-down list. The Data set field is used to select the data set that is assigned to this feed:
After selecting them, by opening a new window, the system will ask you to assign product features to the appropriate fields. This way, the wizard will know which features to insert in the appropriate place in the frame. As far as possible, depending on the settings of the features in the feed and data set, they will be automatically assigned:
If you do not have one of the features defined - select Skip. In this case, the given section on the recommendation frame will not be displayed. It is also possible to assign product features later while working on the frame. To do this, just click on any field of the frame in the preview or clicking in the upper right corner of the screen.
Once you have completed the features, click Save. The screen will display a preview of the non-styled frame with the features you assigned from the date set:
WYSWIG Editor
The WYSWIG Editor allows you to customize the look of your frame using an intuitive and easy-to-use, yet comprehensive menu. It is divided into sections Settings, Appearance, and Promotion and Promotion Tag.
At any time while working with the editor, you have the option to save the frame as a template. If you are using an already saved template, it is also possible to save the changes made to its appearance during editing by selecting the Edit template option. To do this, click the triangle in the blue Save as template drop-down list, and then click the Edit template box):
Use the Settings to adjust the frame:
- dimensions - width and height together with minimum and maximum width and height:
- embedding - inside the website or as a popup:
- location
→ regarding the popup, this will be the position where which the popup should be embedded and the Z-index (leaving the field blank will set the default value: 1000001):
Choosing to embed the popup also gives you the option to set an overlay layer:
Changes made while setting the overlay will be shown in the frame preview on the right.
→ while embedding inside a website, select the HTML selector that will indicate the location of the frame:
Appearance section is used to edit the settings of specific frame elements. Depending on the template type, you can edit e.g. the appearance of the product frame (border), product name, description (category), product price (here the one that is not currently on promotion), or links, thanks to separate mini-panels that allow you to edit these elements:
Depending on the frame element you are editing, panels may have more or less editable parameters.
Promotion and Promotion Tag
If your data set includes a promotional parameter, these are the sections where you can set its appearance on the frame. In the Promotional Tag section, you will specify the name of the tag. In the Promotion section, you will specify its appearance, including the price before and after the promotion:
HTML Editor
The HTML Editor (available by clicking on the icon in the upper right corner of the main configuration screen) gives you the possibility to make changes directly in the source code of the frame or to create it from scratch. If you use this option, you can find a manual in the side panel on the left, which presents the basic information to build the recommendation frame properly:
The frame Settings
The next step after preparing the frame will be setting up the frame elements in the iPresso system. Mandatory fields to be configured are marked with an asterisk:
Name - the name of the frame displayed in the corresponding lists;
Description - characteristics of the frame, such as specifying usefulness in your activities or purpose of use. This text will not be displayed elsewhere;
Tags - added to the user activity history: openings and clicks on the frame;
Monitored page - on which the frame will be displayed;
Validity range - start and end date of the frame activity within the selected monitored page;
Sub site - here you specify the URL where the frame is to be displayed (within the selected monitored page). From the dropdown list you can select: homepage, fragment of the given URL or a regular expression.
If you select a regular expression, after clicking the icon, a dialog box will appear where you can test the correctness of the regular expression:
Summary
Going to the summary, the system will indicate with colors which of the steps have been set correctly (green) and what should be corrected (red) - as in the picture below:
The black bar at the very top of the panel will tell you which elements have been set correctly () or which need improvement (
).
After setting all the items, click Save. If any of the items requires improvement - the Save button will be grayed out.
Drafts
In this list you will find all frames that have been saved. You can save them in two ways:
- Before completing the full configuration by clicking the icon
.
In this case, you can copy, preview, or remove a frame by clicking, or edit it by clicking edit.
- Saved to run after complete configuration (Save in summary).
In this case, after clicking, you can copy, preview, remove, edit or run it in test mode:
Test mode
The Test mode allows you to verify the appearance of the frame, added products and locations within the selected monitored page. The test version is available in the list of Drafts (the frame must be ready to run), the testing option is then located in the additional options. After clicking test instructions, a dialog box displays a test token unique to the frame, which must be copied and then pasted to the address of the monitored page:
Reporting
The list of active frames has an option to report frame opens and clicks. Click the report button to view it:
The data for the running recommendation frame reports is updated 5 minutes after every full hour.
After selecting the time frame, you can click Show Report to generate the report. By default, the start date and end date are set - and if the frame is still running, the end date will be the current day:
Templates
In this list you will find all the templates of recommendation frames which you have prepared or saved. From here you can import templates to your iPresso account (the Template import button), and after clicking the icon you can use the template or export the template to import it later from a file.
